Week 26 (5 Jan - 11 Jan 2003)
Turtle

"I suppose you're right," muttered Stipple the halfling. "After all, a lightning turtle has very faint alternating yellowish and reddish bands on each of its shell-scales."
The elf went pale. He withdrew his hand slowly and walked backwards to their previous hiding place.
I painted up the turtle from week 24 for this week's mini. I also did something a little different from the norm and put this guy up for mid-paint-job reviews on mini-painter. I got a lot of helpful comments.
Some folks mentioned that the ground was a bit dark -- I like the color, but I think that's true for this piece. I left a bit too much shadow around the body, and the colors aren't exactly inspired. Another reviewer mentioned that since he was an imaginary turtle, a more fantastic scheme might be a good idea. Certainly good advice for a future piece.
The most compelling piece of advice was that the sculpt wasn't that impressive to begin with. :)
I've decided to cut my losses on this guy. At this point in the year, I really ought to be working on my ViC and ViP entries. I also need to get started on my entries for this summer's Golden Demon competition. Thanks for the comments, everybody -- I'll try to put them to good use on those pieces and other future work.
