50 GOTO 10

This is the final miniature in this year's Mini-A-Week project. I've managed to sculpt or paint one miniature a week for a full year, usually to a standard I'm proud of (or at least educated by). I thought it was appropriate to end on a figure I'd painted and sculpted.
This was my entry into the ViP #5 show. Regular readers will recall the various in-progress stages of the sculpt, which are located in the Cthulhubot area of my WiP section, as well as the final sculpt which is up at week 34.
I started out with the base. It's not visible in any of the pics (nor can I scan it, unfortunately), but the base is a vague likeness of Cthulhu. I started out by setting the wires that would attach the bot , measuring and carefully drilling out where they'd go. I then glued the wire into place, and when that was cured, put down the green stuff and sculpted the floor.
I was initially unhappy with the raised area, but I now like the way it looks -- it gives him something of an air of floating, which is neat. Looks stupid in these pics, though. . . .

Since I usually use understated and simple schemes, I decided to go for something wild and complicated. The freehand work didn't turn out as well as I'd've liked, but I'm reasonably happy with it. I started with the green checks, and added in four or so layers of yellow and beige. The reds are much deeper and brighter than they look here, which goes for the metals, as well (which are highlighted and shaded like anything else).
The picture of the backpack is a disappointment -- it's not my best work, but it looks a hell of a lot better in person.
I'm gratiful to have made it through a full year, and just a bit early for the sake of style. Thanks to everybody who gave me feedback and support and inspiration. I can see a big difference in both my painting and sculpting, so the project has been a success.
