(week 3: 23 Nov - 29 Nov 2003)

At the Boar's Skull and Brains Inn:
Erodon's hand whipped back from the movement in his bowl of gruel. A large
centipede slithered out of the grey depths and curled at the edge of the bowl,
its eyes glistening darkly.
With another flick of his wrist, the elf caught the eye of the innkeeper's eye
-- he had only the one. The burly man lumbered over and grimaced at the
elf, who gestured down at his bowl.
The innkeeper nodded once. "That's five coppers extra," he said, holding
out one meaty palm.
This isn't a terribly ambitious project, but the end of the term is nearing and I've had little time. One of the things I still have terrible trouble with is tiny detail work. I'm also fascinated with making very small implements for miniatures to use: magic items, flatware, and the like. With this project, I tried to get a recognizable centipede as small as I could. I thought out the storyline in advance, and proceeded from there.
Using leftover putty from larger and more ambitious projects, I sculpted the bowl first, then the body of the creature. I can't seem to add legs, so I've left him a bit more grublike than he might otherwise be. I added the jaws last.

As is evident from the scale shot, he's small if nothing else. I hope to work this sort of detail into something larger -- a wizard's shop, some sort of disturbing chef, or the abovementioned innkeeper.
