Wooden skeleton

(weeks 5 and 6: 7 Dec - 20 Dec 2003)

"Jalaaaaa!" shrieked the goblinoid medicine man.  With equally ear-shattering creaks, the abomination lumbered into view.

As part of TMCW's Xmas Xchange, I sculpted up and painted this guy.  (That's why he counts for two weeks. . . .)  He stands around 28mm high, if I remember right, though he might be a bit large for usual scales.

I started out with a fairly thick-gauge wire armature jammed into a cork.  When I'd sculpted everything but the feet, I epoxied him onto a blank Reaper base.  He's a mixture of brown/green Kneadatite and normal green Kneadatite, depending on what else I was working on at the time and what effect I needed.

Originally, he started out as a concept for the last ViP show.  The theme was invertebrates, and I was going to be cute and submit a skeleton without a backbone.  (The giant worm from week 2 ended up being my entry.)  I didn't finish him in time, but the more I thought about the idea of replacing parts, the more I liked it.  I'd done something vaguely similar with the wood man last year, so I figured I give it a shot again, making this a low-budget (or particularly powerful, perhaps) undead.

It's a bit tough to see in either shot, but the only thing I didn't sculpt here was the stick he's holding -- that's from a staff I collected somewhere or other, and it was much easier to add on than to try and work into the design.  His left hand is supposed to be a shield and club, and should make it clear that he can regenerate.  Muah!

I had an immense amount of fun doing this, and I was glad to take part in the exchange.
